Laurence Fishburne (Black-ish, The Matrix) has come on-board to star and executive produce Rendlesham, the eight episode UFO drama series from UK indie Eleventh Hour Films and Sony Pictures Television.
Rendlesham is inspired by the British-American UFO incident which took place at a US air base close to the village of Rendlesham, Suffolk in 1980. Drawing on reported events across dual timelines – from the time of the sightings in 1980, and looking ahead to 2020, the 40th anniversary.
Fishburne plays the lead role of Tyrone, a retired American airman previously stationed at the infamous US air base during the height of the Cold War. Alongside wife Carol and son Brock, Tyrone returns for the first time to visit Carol’s dying father and is forced to face events that have haunted him his whole life. Fishburne is represented by Paradigm, Landmark Artists and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein & Lezcano.
Doctor Who scribe Joe Ahearne is penning the scripts for the series and will also direct. Eleventh Hour Films co-founders Eve Gutierrez and Jill Green will serve as executive producers. Fishburne also executive produces alongside his producing partner Helen Sugland through his shingle Cinema Gypsy Productions. The project was initially announced last month when Sony Pictures Television took a minority stake in Eleventh Hour Films. SPT will handle global distribution for Rendlesham. At present there is no broadcast partner in either the US or the UK.
