Amazon Prime Video UK is adding two high profile shows to their slate of first run acquisitions. The UK arm of the streaming service has secured the exclusive UK rights to Freeform’s Marvel series Cloak & Dagger and ABC’s sci-fi series The Crossing after striking a deal with international distributor Disney Media Distribution.
As a result of this deal, Amazon will make episodes of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger to view a day after their U.S. broadcast later this year. The Crossing will premiere on Tuesday April 3rd, with further episodes being made available every Tuesday. Amazon has also picked up both shows for a number of their other European territories.
“This marks another step forward in bringing best-in-class TV shows to Prime Video customers in Europe”, said Jay Marine, Vice-President of Prime Video EU. “We are thrilled to be bringing Marvel’s next hugely anticipated TV series exclusively to Prime Video and we look forward to hearing the reaction from Marvel fans and newcomers to the iconic entertainment series alike as they discover the universe of Cloak & Dagger. The Crossing is a timely addition to Prime Video and we’re expecting customers to find much to love about this enigmatic show.”
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is a coming-of-age series that tells the story of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, who come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. The drama series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios and stars Olivia Holt (Ultimate Spider-Man), Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of), Emma Lahana (Hellcats), Jaime Zavallos (House M.D.), Andrea Roth (Rescue Me), Gloria Reuben (ER), Miles Mussenden (Bloodline), Carl Lundstedt (Grey’s Anatomy), and J.D. Evermore (True Detective).
The Crossing tells the story of local sheriff Jude Ellis teams and DHS agent Emma Ren who team up to investigate when 47 refugees mysteriously wash up in a small fishing town and claim that they’re fleeing a war 180 years in the future. The drama series is produced by ABC Studios and stars Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Georgina Haig, Tommy Bastow, Rob Campbell, Rick Gomez, Marcuis W. Harris, Grant Harvey, Jay Karnes, Simone Kessell, Kelley Missal, Luc Roderique and Bailey Skodje.
At Amazon UK, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and The Crossing joins an expansive slate of first run U.S. acquisitions, which includes: Into The Badlands, Preacher, Life In Pieces, StartUp, Lucifer, The Bold Type, Vikings, Casual, The Looming Tower, The Path, UnREAL, Taken, American Gods, The Girlfriend Experience, Outlander, Hap & Leonard, Animal Kingdom, Falling Water and Mr. Robot.
Notably, this is the second bumper UK deal for Disney Media Distribution in the past week. Just last week, they agreed a multi-season licensing agreement with the NBCU owned and operated genre channel SYFY UK for Hulu’s Marvel series Runaways, and Freeform dramas Siren and Stitchers.
