Archive: BBC One’s ‘Atlantis’, Sky1’s ‘Strike Back’ & Sky Atlantic’s ‘The Tunnel’ Book Guest Stars – TVWise

EXCLUSIVE: BBC One’s upcoming 13 episode fantasy series Atlantis has booked two guest stars for its first season, which is set to enter production in Wales and Morocco next month. I’ve learned that both Ken Bones and Alice St. Clair have booked guest roles on the series. Bones has been cast as Melas, one of the Argonauts; and St. Clair as Erinna, a Greek poet. Created by Howard Overman (Misfits), Atlantis is set in the city of Atlantis: a mysterious ancient place; a world of bull leaping, of snake haired goddesses and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants. It’s into this strange, compelling realm that the young Jason arrives and an amazing adventure begins, bringing to life the vast store of Greek myths and legends. The series is being produced by Little Monster Films & BBC Cymru Wales and stars Mark Addy (Game of Thrones), Juliet Stevenson (White Heat), Sarah Parish (Mistresses), Jemima Rooper (Lost In Austen), Aiysha Hart (Honour), Jack Donnelly (Dancing On The Edge) and Robert Emms (War Horse). Justin Molotnikov (Merlin) is attached to direct.
Bernice Steggers (The Inspector Lynley Mysteries) and Catherine Walker (Life of Crime) have booked gust spots on the upcoming season of the Sky1/Cinemax action series Strike Back (the fourth for Sky1 and the third for Cinemax). Based on the novel of the same name by Chris Ryan, Strike Back follows the exploits of Section 20, an elite counter-terrorism unit as it spans the globe to stop potential threats, often behind enemy lines. The drama series is produced by Left Bank Pictures in association with BSkyB & HBO/Cinemax and stars Phillip Winchester, Sullivan Stapleton, Rhona Mitra, Michelle Lukes, Liam Garrigan, Robson Green, Martin Clunes, Dougray Scott and Milauna Jackson. In the show’s new season, which is currently in production, counter-terrorism unit Section 20 pursues a deadly terrorist network from Colombia to Beirut to Europe, uncovering deadly plots that reach to the West.
Finally, the Sky Atlantic/Canal+ series The Tunnel has booked a number of guest stars. I’m being told that Paul Ready (Utopia), Rebecca Saire (EastEnders) and newcomer Mia Goth have landed guest roles on the series. An adaptation of Scandinavian series The Bridge, The Tunnel is set against the backdrop of Europe in crisis. When a prominent French politician is found dead on the border between the UK and France, detectives Karl Roebuck and Elise Wassermann are sent to investigate on behalf of their respective countries. However, the case takes a surreal turn when a shocking discovery is made at the crime scene, forcing the French and British police into an uneasy partnership. As the serial killer uses ever more elaborate and ingenious methods to highlight the moral bankruptcy of modern society, Karl and Elise are drawn deeper into his increasingly personal agenda. Kudos Film & TV and Shine France are producing the 10 episode series, which stars Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones), Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter), Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones), Tom Bateman (Da Vinci’s Demons), Tobi Bakare (Silent Witness), Jeanne Balibar (All About Actresses), Thibault de Montalembert (Days of Glory), Mathieu Carrièrre, Angel Coulby (Merlin) & Jack Lowden (Mrs Biggs). Dominic Moll and Udayan Prasad are directing.
