Spain v Austria Live Stream, TV Channel

Spain arrive in Los Angeles with genuine momentum and a historic stat to protect, having become the first nation in World Cup history to complete an entire group stage without conceding a single goal.

Luis de la Fuente’s side topped Group H with seven points from nine, with wins over Saudi Arabia and Uruguay either side of the goalless draw with Cape Verde in the opener.

Even so, many feel we are yet to see the best of this Spain side. Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams have been among the most dangerous players at the tournament when given space, while Pedri and Rodri continue to control games from midfield.

De la Fuente may tweak his lineup tonight, with Dani Olmo pushing for a start and Ferran Torres having done enough in his appearances to stay in the squad picture.

Spain are 13 games unbeaten across all competitions, though they have lost their last two World Cup knockout matches since winning the trophy in 2010.

Excluding penalty shootout losses, Spain are on a remarkable 34-game unbeaten run, just one short of their national record of 35, and they are unbeaten in five meetings with Austria, winning four and drawing one, though the sides have not faced each other since 2009.

Austria’s journey to this point has been one of the stories of the tournament. A 2-0 defeat to Argentina was followed by wins over Jordan and a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser to draw 3-3 against Algeria on the final matchday, sealing a place in the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time since 1954.

Ralf Rangnick’s side showed real character throughout the group stage, with Marko Arnautovic and Carney Chukwuemeka both contributing important moments.

The concern is their defensive record, having not kept a World Cup clean sheet since 1982, though their backline has been more solid as the tournament has progressed.

Austria have not beaten Spain since March 1990, a wait of over 35 years, and only three of their last nine matches have produced more than two goals, suggesting they may set up to frustrate and hit Spain on the break rather than commit men forward from the off.

This tournament has already produced plenty of shocks, and Austria will take confidence from what they have already achieved.

But Spain’s quality across the pitch is hard to ignore, and with Yamal and Williams likely to be given more freedom tonight, the reigning European champions will feel this is a tie they should win comfortably.
