Uruguay v Spain Live Stream Details
Uruguay v Spain will be shown live in the UK on ITV1, with coverage beginning at 12:15am BST. Scottish viewers can also watch on STV.
Uruguay go into this final group game with their World Cup campaign on the line, with just two points from their opening two matches leaving Marcelo Bielsa’s side needing at least a draw to have any realistic hope of progressing.
It has been a deeply frustrating tournament for La Celeste so far. A 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia in the opener was followed by a 2-2 draw with Cape Verde, a result that few would have predicted before the tournament.
Uruguay have now drawn five of their last six matches across all competitions and defeat tonight would see them exit at the group stage for the second consecutive World Cup, something that has never happened to them before in their history.
Bielsa is under real pressure and needs a reaction from his squad. Maxi Araujo has been Uruguay’s most dangerous outlet going forward, and with Spain’s full backs not always secure defensively, he could be the key man if La Celeste are to cause an upset.
Four of Uruguay’s last five games have seen both teams score, which at least suggests this is unlikely to be a quiet night in Guadalajara.
Spain meanwhile arrive in excellent shape after a commanding 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia put them firmly in control of Group H.
Lamine Yamal was the standout performer that night, scoring his first World Cup goal and tormenting the Saudi defence throughout, with Mikel Oyarzabal also grabbing a brace.
The contrast with their flat 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in the opener could not have been more stark.
Luis de la Fuente simply has to start Yamal again given the difference he makes. The 18-year-old cannot always complete 90 minutes, but the gap between Spain with and without him is impossible to ignore. Pedri and Rodri are expected to continue controlling midfield, with Oyarzabal or Dani Olmo likely to lead the attack.
Spain are unbeaten in their last ten meetings with Uruguay, winning the three most recent, though the sides have not faced each other since 2013. La Roja have also never completed a World Cup group stage without conceding, and with Uruguay desperately needing goals, tonight could be the night that record goes.
A Spain win or draw seals top spot in Group H. A Uruguay win, combined with Cape Verde failing to beat Saudi Arabia, would send La Celeste through instead. With so much riding on the result, this has the makings of a tense and entertaining night at the Estadio Akron.
