The Tallaght Stadium in Dublin will remain witness to a UECL League phase encounter when temporary home side Shelbourne FC play against visitors Crystal Palace on Thursday.

Shelbourne FC have not had the start that they must have expected after becoming just the second Irish side to achieve qualification for a group stage/league phase of any European competition. The team are currently reeling in 34th position on the UECL points table, having not scored a single goal in any of their fixtures.

On the domestic front, Shelbourne finished in third position on the League of Ireland Premier Division points table, seven points behind champions Shamrock Rovers. Having no other competition to look forward to until February 2026, the European debutants will be looking to achieve a positive result from their final two fixtures, and end the current season on a positive note.

Crystal Palace enter Thursday’s game with two very important wins in their pocket; consecutive victories registered against Burnley and Fulham propelled the Eagles to fourth position on the EPL charts, thus making them serious contenders for UCL qualification in the next season. This will, however, depend on Crystal Palace’s performance throughout the remainder of the season.

On the European front, Oliver Glasner’s side sit in 18th position on the table, and are two points behind a top 8 finish. Their final two games against Shelbourne and KuPS should provide the required points and take the Eagles to the next stage of the campaign. However, Crystal Palace will be looking to shake off the ghost of their last UECL outing, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Strasbourg.

Taking into consideration current forms and recent results, a comfortable victory for Crystal Palace seems to be the probable outcome of the fixture.
