Channel 4 Unveils 2019 Slate: Brexit Drama Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Aisling Bea Comedy Happy AF
Channel 4 has unveiled a raft of new commissions for 2019, headlined by a Brexit drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and a new comedy from Aisling Bea.
The Brexit film, a feature-length thriller written by James Graham, casts Cumberbatch as Dominic Cummings, the strategist who led the Vote Leave campaign. Rather than weighing up the result, the drama sets out to tell the story of how the referendum was won, focusing on the data-driven campaign behind it.
Bea’s comedy, under the working title Happy AF, is a six-part series she writes and stars in, following one woman’s attempt to pull her life back together and find some happiness after a breakdown. Sharon Horgan co-stars as her sister.
Also among the commissions is Maxxx, a six-part comedy written by and starring O-T Fagbenle as a disgraced former pop star trying to win back both his reputation and his ex-girlfriend. The announcements came as Channel 4 set out a renewed push on comedy across the channel and its All4 service.
