BBC One has confirmed that filming is under way on a ninth series of Father Brown, its long-running daytime detective drama.
Loosely based on the stories of G.K. Chesterton, the show is set in the 1950s in the fictional Cotswolds village of Kembleford, where Mark Williams’s crime-solving Roman Catholic priest has a habit of reaching the truth of a murder well ahead of the local police. Williams returns in the title role for the new run.
The series has quietly become one of the BBC’s most reliable daytime performers and a firm favourite overseas, thanks to its gentle, cosy brand of period whodunit. More cases in and around Kembleford are promised when the new episodes reach BBC One.
