Archive Netflix Acquires UK Rights To NBC Comedy Series ‘Champions’ & ‘Marlon’ – TVWise

Netflix UK is adding two NBC comedies to their slate. The streaming service has agreed a deal with NBCUniversal International Distribution to secure the exclusive UK rights to Champions and Marlon. Champions and Marlon will premiere on Netflix UK in June.
Champions follows Vince, a charismatic gym owner with no ambition who lives with his younger brother Michael, a gorgeous idiot. Their simple life of women and working out is put on hold when Vince’s teenage son is dropped off on their doorstep by Priya, one of his old high school flings. The comedy series is produced by Universal Television and stars Anders Holm, Andy Favreau, J.J. Totah, Fortune Feimster and Mouzam Makkar.
Loosely based on the life of Marlon Wayans, Marlon follows Marlon, a loving father committed to co-parenting his two kids with his very-together ex-wife. While his misguided fatherly advice, unstoppable larger-than-life personality and unpredictable Internet superstardom might get in the way sometimes, for Marlon family really always does come first — even if he’s the biggest kid of all. The comedy series is produced by Universal Television and stars Marlon Wayans, Essence Atkins, Notlim Taylor, Amir O’Neil, Bresha Webb and Diallo Riddle
With these two acquisitions, Netflix UK is now the first run home to three of NBC’s comedies. The streaming service also holds exclusive rights to The Good Place, starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. The Good Place has been renewed for a third season, while Marlon has already been renewed for season two. NBC has not yet made a decision on the future of Champions, with the season finale set to air tomorrow (Friday May 25th) in the United States.
Elsewhere, in a deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment Netflix UK has also acquired ABC’s short-lived supernatural drama series Somewhere Between. The series follows news producer and fiercely loving mom Laura Price. She isn’t crazy: she knows her daughter Serena is going to be murdered. She doesn’t know who the murderer is or why she’ll be killed, but she knows exactly when it will happen, where and how. Despite this, all of her attempts to keep her daughter safe fail, and Serena’s fixed, unmovable, terrifying fate keeps her directly in the path of her killer. The drama series is produced by Thunderbird Entertainment and ITV Studios America and stars Paula Patton, JR Bourne, Devon Sawa and Aria Birch.
