Happy! is crossing the pond.
Netflix UK has secured the exclusive rights to Syfy’s action-comedy series starring Chris Meloni (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Surviving Jack) and Patton Oswalt (The Goldbergs, Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) TVWise has learned. The show’s first season will be available to stream from Thursday April 26th.
Happy! follows Nick Sax (Meloni) – an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man – who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named Happy (Oswalt).
The series is based on New York Times best-selling author Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel of the same name and is produced by Universal Cable Productions. Executive producers Grant Morrison and Brian Taylor co-wrote the pilot teleplay. Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe of Original Film, Meloni and showrunner Patrick Macmanus also executive produce. Syfy has already ordered a second season.
This deal further extends the close relationship between Netflix and NBCUniversal International Distribution. The two companies have previously worked together on a number of original series including Damnation, The Sinner, Suits, fellow Syfy original series Superstition, and Game Of Throne creator George R. R. Martin’s Nightflyers. The UK arm of the streaming service is also home to the independently produced Syfy originals The Expanse, Ghost Wars and Van Helsing.
