ITV Encore has closed a deal with sister company ITV Studios Global Entertainment to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Swedish thriller series Jordskott, TVWise has learned.
Produced by Palladium Fiction for Swedish broadcaster SVT, Jordskott tell the story of police investigator Eva Thörnblad who, seven years after her daughter Josefine disappeared in the forest of Silverhöjd, is forced to re-open that dark mystery after a young boy goes missing from the same forest.
“Jordskott’s stunning backdrop in a Swedish forest brilliantly sets the scene for this mysterious thriller of loss, grief and love”, said Jayne Redpath, ITVSGE’s Senior Vice-President of Sales for EMEA. “These universal themes and beautiful production values make it perfect for an international audience. We’re delighted that ITV Encore feels the same. “
“Jordskott is a wonderful, contemporary Nordic drama that is an intense and gripping watch”, added ITV’s Director of Digital Channels & Acquisitions Angela Jain, who brokered the deal with ITVSGE. “ITV Encore will be the perfect home for it so we are thrilled to be able to bring it to the UK audience. “
The acquisition of Jordskott puts ITV Encore in direct competition with the likes of BBC Four, More4 and Sky Arts – all of whom are semi-frequent buyers of foreign language dramas. The series also marks the second exclusive scripted buy for ITV Encore, following today’s deal with Endemol Shine International for Broadchurch remake Gracepoint.
