Syfy has put into development Creature At Bay, a 90 minute pilot for a potential monster series which hails from Bryan Singer and his production company Bad Hat Harry Productions.
Created by John Cabrera, Creature At Bay, is set in the wake of the US military taking down a giant, rampant creature – a modern-day “Kaiju” monster – just off the Northern California coast. The drama follows a middle-management Undersecretary from the California Emergency Management Agency who is charged with leading the clean-up efforts as the small town becomes the focus of the entire world. Bad Hat Harry Productions and Universal Cable Productions are producing, with Bryan Singer and Jason Taylor serving as executive producers.
Creature At Bay is the latest potential scripted series to be put into development at Syfy and follows on from the recent pilot orders for 12 Monkeys and Dominion. All of which comes as the network is making an aggressive push back into scripted, after largely focusing on un-scripted formats for the past couple of years. Other moves in this area include handing a straight-to-series order to Ron D. Moore’s Helix, which just recently entered production. While Syfy’s President of Original Content Mark Stern recently announced his intention to have up to six scripted series airing on the network, with hopes to move back into longform as well.
