These two have not met in the league since 1957.

Lincoln are back in the second tier for the first time since the 1950s, having won the League One title last season. Michael Skubala, who took them up, left for Bristol City in the summer, and Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw have taken over as joint head coaches.

Their start has been respectable, with away wins at Preston North End and Bristol City among it, but the momentum has gone. A 2-1 home defeat to leaders Swansea City before the international break was followed by a 3-0 loss at Sheffield United on Saturday.

That is the second time this season they have lost back to back in the league, and 15th place leaves them four points above the relegation zone. It is not a habit they can afford.

West Ham are third and have lost just once in nine Championship games, with the best attacking record in the division. Swansea sit four points clear of them at the top.

The run has stalled, though. Since beating Wrexham 6-0 they have played three London clubs and beaten none of them, losing to Fulham in the cup, coming from two down to draw at Millwall, then drawing 1-1 at home with QPR, where Jarrod Bowen missed a late penalty.

The clubs last met in the EFL Cup three years ago, when West Ham came through it.
