Rangers can go top with a win and the Gers will be looking for maximum points.
Derek McInnes has taken his side to within two points of Celtic on the back of seven straight wins in all competitions, including both Old Firm games. Victory at Dens Park would put them first, at least until Celtic play Hearts on Sunday.
That run bears no relation to how the season started. McInnes failed to win any of his first four matches in charge and Rangers were out of Europe before the league had properly got going.
Dundee have made a decent fist of it themselves. Steven Pressley’s side are fourth after eight games, with back to back wins over Motherwell and Falkirk behind them.
Holding a top-six place this early would be a good return, though this is comfortably the hardest test they have faced. Dundee have not beaten Rangers in a very long time.
Dens Park has not been kind to them in this fixture either.
