Sky have the Saturday evening slot, as they do most weeks, and this closes the televised Premier League action for the day. Everton v Chelsea went earlier at 12.30 on TNT Sports.

The three o’clock games are blacked out as usual, which makes these two the only Premier League fixtures on television today. Dundee v Rangers follows at 20.00 on Sky for anyone still going.

Both sides need a win coming into this one to boost confidence.

Newcastle have been beaten 4-1 twice on the road, at Leeds and then at Coventry on Monday, and sit mid-table after an inconsistent opening six games under Matthias Jaissle. The defending is the obvious concern.

Home has been a different story, with five unbeaten at St James’ Park including a 2-1 win over Hull City before the international break. That is the record they will be leaning on.

Villa are 16th but have found some form, winning four and drawing one of their last six. Wednesday brought a 6-0 rout of Fenerbahce in the Champions League, the biggest European win of Unai Emery’s time at the club.

Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley both scored twice that night, and Jackson has been in excellent touch. Villa have travelled rather better than they have played at Villa Park this season, which may matter here.
