Both sides are unbeaten in the league after three games and both sit on five points, with Newcastle marginally ahead on goal difference.

Leeds opened with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest before drawing 1-1 with Brentford and then 1-1 at Brighton, where Jayden Bogle’s opener was cancelled out by Luka Vuskovic.

Midweek brought their first defeat in any competition. Two goals up at Stamford Bridge in the cup, Daniel Farke’s side were beaten 6-3 by Chelsea once Xabi Alonso emptied his bench.

Avoiding defeat here would make this only the fourth Leeds side to go unbeaten through their first four Premier League games, a feat last managed in 2001-02. Only one of their last 12 in the division has ended in defeat, though six of those were draws.

Leeds came out of Wednesday without fresh injuries and Ilia Gruev could return from a knee problem. Joe Rodon faces eight to 10 weeks out with a thigh injury, while Mateo Joseph is still working back from an ACL problem.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will fancy this one. He has seven Premier League goals against Newcastle, more than he has managed against any other side.
