Is Sunderland v Brentford on TV?

Sunderland have a lot on their plate. They are bottom of the Premier League with five points, but Sunday’s goalless draw with Leeds at the Stadium of Light ended a run of four straight league defeats and brought their first league clean sheet in a while.

Regis Le Bris has asked his players to embrace the challenge of juggling the league with Europe, where they won at Torreense earlier in the campaign. They reached this round by beating Hull City 1-0, and with Coventry, Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea coming up, changes are likely.

Daniel Ballard and Romaine Mundle are still out with hamstring and knee injuries, and Kevin Danso is suspended. Thomas Meunier and Wilson Isidor are doubts, while Nordi Mukiele is fine despite coming off early against Leeds and could play at centre-back or right-back.

Brian Brobbey started on Sunday after a hamstring problem, so Le Bris may manage his minutes and give Timur Tutierov the centre-forward role.

Brentford are sixth and still unbeaten away from home. Their first league defeat of the season came at home to Liverpool, and on Sunday they came from a goal down at half time to draw 1-1 at Hull, their fifth draw of the campaign after the likes of the 2-2 at Bournemouth.

Keith Andrews has called the EFL Cup a serious competition, and Brentford have gone deep in it in recent seasons. They won 6-1 at Birmingham City in the second round before holding off a late Reading fightback to win 2-1 in the third.

Antoni Milambo, Joshua Dasilva and Kaye Furo are all injured, and Yehor Yarmoliuk serves the second game of a three-match ban. Vitaly Janelt is back from suspension, which could let Aaron Hickey return to right-back, and Reading scorers Fabio Carvalho and Callum Wilson are pushing for starts along with Mikkel Damsgaard, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Nathan Collins.

The sides met in the league just over seven weeks ago, drawing 1-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium.
