France v Morocco Live Stream, TV Channel

France and Morocco renew one of the most compelling rivalries of recent World Cups, with the two sides meeting in the quarter finals four years after their memorable semi-final in Qatar.

It is a rematch that few could have predicted and one that carries enormous significance for both nations.

France have been the most complete team at this tournament, winning all five of their games with 13 goals scored and only two conceded.

A hard-fought 1-0 win over Paraguay in the last 16 was secured by a Desire Doue run that won a Kylian Mbappe penalty, with Les Bleus having to grind out the victory rather than dazzle as they had in earlier rounds.

Mbappe is level with Messi and Haaland on seven tournament goals and now has 19 World Cup goals in total, closing in on a record that once seemed unassailable.

Didier Deschamps will manage his 25th World Cup game tonight, equalling Helmut Schon’s all time record, and is expected to name an unchanged side. Aurelien Tchouameni misses out with a thigh injury, with Manu Kone continuing alongside Adrien Rabiot in midfield.

Marcus Thuram is also absent, though France’s depth means neither absence changes the outlook significantly.

Michael Olise has been exceptional throughout and leads the tournament’s assist chart after a series of stunning performances.

The front four of Mbappe, Olise, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola has caused problems for every team they have faced, with Doue providing a dangerous option off the bench.

Morocco are appearing in the World Cup quarter finals for the second consecutive tournament, continuing their remarkable progress as the standard bearers for African football.

Mohamed Ouahbi’s side finished second in Group C before a dramatic penalty win over the Netherlands in the last 32, followed by a 3-0 demolition of co-hosts Canada in the last 16 that was one of the performances of the tournament.

Brahim Diaz set up two goals against Canada and now holds the all-time African record with four World Cup assists in a single tournament, while Azzedine Ounahi’s two goals off the bench against Canada underlined the depth of quality running through this Morocco squad.

The Atlas Lions have gone ten games unbeaten since January’s Africa Cup of Nations final.

The main fitness concern is Ismael Saibari, who came off early against Canada with a hamstring strain and is doubtful tonight, with Soufiane Rahimi the likely replacement up front.

Centre back Chadi Riad was also substituted against Canada and is being monitored ahead of this evening.

Morocco have never beaten France in six previous meetings, losing four and drawing two, including the 2-0 semi-final defeat in Qatar.

This is a different Morocco side under Ouahbi, more fluid and more dangerous going forward than any previous iteration, and if Diaz can replicate his Canada performance against a French backline that is not quite at full strength, the Atlas Lions have the quality to cause a real upset.

The winner will face either Spain or Belgium in the semi final on 14 or 15 July. Deschamps has made clear this is his final tournament and his players will be desperate to send him out on the ultimate high.
