Qatar v Switzerland on TV: Live Streaming Details

Qatar and Switzerland meet in Group B on Saturday evening in Santa Clara, with both sides knowing that a win here would put them in a strong position to reach the last 32 in a very open group alongside Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Qatar are back at the World Cup for the first time since hosting it in 2022, when they became the first host nation to be eliminated in the group stage. Julen Lopetegui has been tasked with rebuilding the side, though their pre-tournament form has been poor, with six matches without a win including a 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland and a 1-1 draw with El Salvador.

Akram Afif leads the attack and has 39 international goals to his name, making him far and away Qatar’s most dangerous player. Lopetegui is expected to start with Afif, Yusuf Abdurisag and Edmilson Junior in the front three, with Pedro Miguel and Boualem Khoukhi at centre-back.

Switzerland are one of the more consistent nations at this level, reaching the round of 16 in each of their last three World Cup appearances. Murat Yakin’s side have lost just one of their last 14 games, a 4-3 defeat to Germany in March, and arrive in California in solid shape after a 4-1 win over Jordan and a 1-1 draw with Australia in their warm-up matches.

Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji and Ricardo Rodriguez bring plenty of experience to the Swiss lineup, with Zeki Amdouni of Burnley expected to lead the attack. Remo Freuler and Xhaka should control the midfield, and Switzerland’s organisation and defensive discipline will make them a difficult side to break down.

The only previous meeting between the sides ended in a 1-0 win for Qatar in a 2018 friendly, with Afif scoring the only goal. Switzerland will be looking to put that right on Saturday and get their campaign off to a winning start.

Also on Saturday night, Brazil face Morocco in Group C at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey from 23:00 BST. Meanwhile, Scotland take on Haiti in Boston in the early hours of Sunday morning. For a full list of every World Cup match on TV, visit our 2026 World Cup live stream guide.
