BBC Two has set a premiere date for Black Earth Rising, the new drama from Hugo Blick, with the eight-part series beginning on Monday September 10th.
A co-production between BBC Two and Netflix, written and directed by Blick, the thriller stars Michaela Coel as Kate Ashby, a legal investigator who was rescued as a child from the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide and raised in Britain. She works in the London chambers of American barrister Michael Ennis, played by John Goodman, alongside her adoptive mother Eve Ashby, a leading international lawyer played by Harriet Walter.
When Eve takes on a high-profile case prosecuting a Rwandan militia leader for war crimes, it drags Kate and Michael into a story that forces Kate to confront the past she has spent her life trying to escape. Netflix will carry the series internationally after its UK run.
