Universal TV has acquired the exclusive UK rights to AT&T’s Audience network’s spy thriller Condor after striking a deal with international distributor MGM Worldwide Television Distribution. The series will premiere on Universal TV on Monday October 29th at 9pm with a double-bill.
Condor follows Joe Turner, a young CIA analyst who stumbles onto a terrible but brilliant plan that threatens the lives of millions. The drama series is produced by MGM Television and Skydance Television and stars Max Irons, William Hurt, Leem Lubany, Angel Bonanni, Kristen Hager, with Mira Sorvino and Bob Balaban. Brendan Fraser guest stars.
It is based on both the novel Six Days of the Condor by James Grady and screenplay Three Days Of The Condor by Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel. The series was developed for television by Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg. Jason Smilovic serves as the showrunner and executive producer. AT&T’s Audience network has already renewed Condor for a second season.
MGM Television has been seeking a UK home for Condor for more than a year; after initially launching the series to UK buyers at the 2017 LA Screenings. This marks the latest UK deal for the independent studio, who have existing deals with various UK broadcasters for Vikings (Amazon Prime Video UK), Fargo (Channel 4), The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair (Sky Witness), The Handmaid’s Tale (Channel 4) and Get Shorty (Sky Atlantic).
With this licensing agreement, Condor joins Fox’s medical drama The Resident and NBC’s procedural dramas Chicago Med and Law & Order Special Victims Unit on Universal TV’s slate of first run U.S. scripted drama. NBCU’s flagship UK channel is also the first run home to Canadian series Burden Of Truth, Ransom and Private Eyes.
