New details have emerged on Netflix’s upcoming drama series Sense8, which hails from Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, The Wachowskis, Georgeville Television and Studio JMS.
It was back in March 2013 that Netflix announced that they had given a 10 episode straight-to-series order to Sense8, with the series being targeted for a 2014 release in all Netflix territories (US, Canada, UK, Latin America etc). At the time of the announcement, little was revealed about Sense8, with Netflix only releasing a one line synopsis which described the series as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.”
Since then, there has been little news on the series. That said, sources have informed me that the series is in fact about “persecution, bigotry and fear.” I understand that the series follows a group of people (presumably eight of them judging by the title of the series) who are psychically linked and find themselves hunted to the ends of the earth because of their “unique gift.” That gift has been described as an evolutionary leap, which was caused by technology. Sense8 has also been described to me as an “international series” which will have a diverse cast. As noted above, GVTV and Studio JMS are producing with Straczysnki, Marc Rosen, Leon Clarance, and Deepak Nayar serving as executive producers. J. Michael Straczynski, a veteran TV producer whose previous credits include Babylon 5, Crusade and Jeremiah, is also serving as the showrunner.
