Como are new to all this.

They are one of four debutants in this season’s league phase, having qualified by finishing fourth in Serie A, and they opened by beating RB Leipzig 4-1. Feyenoord then edged them 3-2 last week.

Cesc Fabregas’s side are fifth in Serie A after winning 3-1 at Fiorentina, and tonight is the first time in the club’s history they have faced English opposition.

Manchester United have not won since 10 September. Six games without a victory, three of them drawn, and Sunday’s 1-1 at Leeds left them 13th in the Premier League.

Europe has been kinder in parts, with a 4-0 win over Sabah before Atletico Madrid won 2-0 in Madrid last week. Michael Carrick is under heavy pressure either way.

Roma, Sporting Lisbon, Bayern Munich and Villarreal are all still to come in the league phase.
