EXCLUSIVE: Caitlin Moran and Big Talk Productions are getting back into business with Channel 4. I’ve learned that Channel 4 has given the green-light to a broadcast pilot for a new comedy series from Caitlin Moran and Big Talk Productions titled Raised By Wolves.
Penned by Caitlin Moran and Caroline Moran, Raised by Wolves tells the story of a large family who are living on a council estate in Wolverhampton and are reliant on benefits. The series focuses on the parents’ attempts to steer their kids in the right direction. I understand that the project is inspired by Moran’s own life. Big Talk Productions is producing the pilot, which is set to air this Autumn, with Rhian Griffiths serving as series producer and Big Talk’s CEO Kenton Allen serving as the executive producer. My sources also tell me that the pilot will be shot in Manchester and that Death of a Superhero helmer Ian Fitzgibbon has signed on to direct.
This is the second time that Moran and Big Talk Productions have teamed for a Channel 4 comedy. Moran and Big Talk previously set up The Big Object at the broadcaster in early 2012. That pilot followed an overweight 16-year-old looking for a boyfriend and focused on the lives of three characters: two sisters and a mother. Former Channel 4 head of comedy Shane Allen asked for a re-write on the pilot last year and its unclear what the status of the comedy is following Allen’s departure to head the BBC’s comedy output.
