UKTV has closed a deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to the second and third seasons of White Collar (the show’s first season was previously broadcast on Bravo in the UK) and the first three seasons of The Glades for its Alibi Channel. The first season of The Glades will receive its UK premiere in September, while the second season of White Collar is set to premiere in October.
White Collar was created by Jeff Eastin and follows Neal Caffrey, a white collar criminal who is sent to prison by FBI Agent Peter Burke. After having served three years and nine months of his four year prison sentence Caffrey escapes from prison, ostensibly to find his ex-girlfriend. However, Agent Burke locates Caffrey and sends him back to the federal penitentiary, at which point Caffrey proposes a deal in which he would assist the FBI in their cases as part of a work release program. Initially skeptical of the proposal, Agent Burke eventually agrees when information provided by Caffrey pans out. The drama series stars Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay, Tiffani Thiessen, Willie Garson, Hilarie Burton, Marsha Thomason and Sharif Atkins.
Created by Clifton Campbell, The Glades follows the exploits of Jim Longworth, a Chicago homicide detective who, after being accused of sleeping with the wife of his commanding officer, transfers to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement where he must tackle with the unusually high homicide rate in eastern Florida. The drama series stars Matt Passmore as Jim Longworth, Kiele Sanchez as Callie Cargill, Carlos Gomez as Carlos Sanchez, Uriah Shelton as Jeff Cargill, Jordan Wall as Daniel Green and Michelle Hurd as Colleen Manus.
Speaking of the acquisitions of both White Collar and The Glades, Steve Hornsey, General Manager of Alibi, said: “Both these series have proved hugely popular in America and are the perfect fit for Alibi’s remit of showcasing the best crime drama available. We are confident they will prove must-see shows for our viewers and we are delighted they will be able to enjoy them in high definition.”
Catherine Mackin, Director of Programme Acquisitions at UKTV, added: “This is the first full licencing deal UKTV has done with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and we are delighted to be extending our relationship with them. White Collar and The Glades are unique crime series that have already secured a huge following and they perfectly embody the type of quality US content we want for Alibi.”
While Steve Cornish, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, commented: “We are excited to be working with UKTV and believe that these popular series will be strong and unique additions for Alibi.”
