Gameweek 18 of the English Premier League will feature a fixture on Boxing Day when Manchester United host Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Friday.

This will be the only time that just one Premier League fixture will be played on this day after Christmas.
Manchester United suffered a blow to their top four dreams when two goals by Morgan Rogers led Aston Villa to register a 2-1 victory over the Red Devils. This loss left the Manchester side stranded on seventh position on the league charts, just outside the European qualification spots.
Adding to their worries, captain Bruno Fernandes left the field against the Villas with a hamstring injury, and this will surely dampen the spirits of the Old Trafford faithful, who have now lost one of their best performers this season. Ruben Amorim’s men have also not won any of their last three home fixtures, and will be desperate for some positive result that can help them achieve their European dreams.
Newcastle United, on their part, enter the game against the Red Devils on the back of a demoralising 2-2 draw against Chelsea in a fixture that saw the Blues neutralise a brace by Nick Woltemade. The Magpies now sit in eleventh position on the points table, and will be desperately searching for a string of wins in order to achieve a higher league finish.
Eddie Howe will, however, have to make quick fixes to his side’s defensive leaks if the team are to challenge for European spots. The Magpies have been scored against in each of their last 10 top flight fixtures, and with just one away victory registered this season, the fans will surely be praying for a victory.
As things stand, either a draw or a victory for Manchester United can be predicted as the possible outcome of the game.
