Why Derby v Wrexham is not being shown live

There is no live UK coverage of this one. A three o’clock Saturday kick off falls inside the blackout window, and this fixture was not among those picked out for television.

Overseas it is a different story, with Championship football widely shown abroad and Wrexham in particular drawing an audience the blackout never reaches. In the UK it comes down to highlights, radio and the clubs’ own audio commentary.

Derby need this badly.

One win from eight has John Eustace’s side 22nd, two points off 21st, and Pride Park has been the problem rather than the refuge. One point from four home games, with the last three all lost.

Goals are scarce too, with Patrick Agyemang still absent, and the run before the international break was three straight defeats to West Ham, West Brom and Birmingham City.

Mohammed Fuseini at least salvaged something at Burnley, an excellent 93rd-minute equaliser that stopped a fourth consecutive loss. He joined on deadline day after a move to Birmingham fell through.

The defensive injury list has grown over the break. Charlie Taylor is out for around a month with a hamstring problem, Derry Murkin and Craig Forsyth are also unavailable at full-back, and centre-backs Matt Clarke and Eiran Cashin both have calf trouble.

Wrexham are 14th and beat Southampton 2-1 at the Racecourse last time out, Kieffer Moore scoring. That followed a chastening afternoon at West Ham, where they were beaten 6-0.

Phil Parkinson’s summer recruitment continued the pattern of buying Championship experience, with Callum O’Hare arriving from Sheffield United. Liberato Cacace has another calf problem and is seeing a specialist in London, while Moore should be fresh after limited minutes for Wales over the break.
