England v Congo Live Stream

England go into their first World Cup knockout tie of the tournament with confidence high after sealing top spot in Group L with a 2-0 win over Panama on the final matchday.

Harry Kane becoming England’s al l-time leading scorer at World Cups in the process and Jude Bellingham also getting on the scoresheet.

Performances were not always convincing during the group stage, with a defensive vulnerability exposed in the 4-2 win over Croatia and an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Ghana raising questions about England’s ability to break down deep defensive blocks.

Thomas Tuchel remains unbeaten in 11 competitive games as England manager, and the Three Lions head to Atlanta as strong favourites to reach the last 16.

The main concern ahead of this game is at right back, with both Reece James and Jarell Quansah on the treatment table.

James is unlikely to be fit, while Tuchel has expressed cautious optimism about Quansah being available in a few days.

Djed Spence is expected to start, with a back four of Spence, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi and Mikey O’Reilly behind a midfield of Jobe Anderson and Declan Rice. Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford are pushing to keep their places on the flanks, with Kane leading the line and Bellingham in behind.

DR Congo are making their debut appearance in the knockout rounds of a World Cup, having reached the last 32 as the best-placed third-placed team with four points and a positive goal difference.

They drew 1-1 with Portugal in their opener, lost 1-0 to Colombia, before coming from behind to beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in their final group game, with Yoane Wissa scoring twice and Fiston Mayele also finding the net.

Sebastien Desabre may switch back to the 5-3-2 formation he used against Portugal and Colombia rather than the 4-4-2 that worked against Uzbekistan.

That change would likely see Brian Cipenga drop out in favour of Steve Kapuadi in central defence, with Wissa leading the line alongside the experienced Cedric Bakambu.

Wissa has already scored more World Cup goals at this tournament than he managed in the entire 2025/26 Premier League season.

The two sides have never met before in their entire history, making this a genuine unknown for both camps.

The winner of the game would face Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.
