Haiti are making their first World Cup appearance in 52 years, having last featured in 1974 in West Germany, where they lost all three group games and conceded 14 goals. Head coach Sebastien Migne has not set foot on the Caribbean island since taking charge 18 months ago due to the severe security situation there, with all of Haiti’s home qualifiers played 500 miles away in Curacao.
Despite those extraordinary circumstances, Haiti qualified impressively, winning six and drawing two of their ten CONCACAF qualifiers. They beat New Zealand 4-0 in their penultimate warm-up but lost 2-1 to Peru in their final friendly, and Migne is expected to field the same 4-4-2 shape from both those games. Duckens Nazon, who has scored a record 44 goals in 78 appearances for his country, leads the attack alongside Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor.
