It is the final day of action at Alexandra Palace before the Christmas break at the PDC World Darts Championship, and the closing session has all the ingredients for an early festive classic.

Luke Littler, Michael Van Gerwen in play

The championship resumes on Saturday 27 December and promises a memorable day of darts. Two of the sport’s biggest names, Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen, are both in action, with fans hoping to see vintage performances and potentially a tournament-leading checkout along the way.

Play restarts at 12:50 GMT with a third-round clash between Wesley Plaisier and Krzysztof Ratajski. Live coverage begins earlier at 12:30 GMT and also features Andrew Gilding versus Luke Woodhouse, followed by Jonny Clayton against Niels Zonneveld.

The evening session continues the last-32 action with three more matches, culminating in the return of reigning world champion and world number one Luke Littler, who is scheduled to face Mensur Suljovic at around 22:00 GMT as the post Christmas drama gets fully underway.

Round two concludes on Tuesday evening, with eight more players securing their places in the third round before play pauses for Christmas.

After 13 days of high quality tungsten action in north London, the tournament now heads into its traditional three day festive shutdown before returning on Saturday 27 December.

Is there darts on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day?

Unfortunately for fans, there is no live darts scheduled across Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day. The championship observes its customary three day break, giving players, officials and broadcasters the chance to enjoy the festivities before the competition resumes on the afternoon of 27 December.

That pause only adds to the anticipation, with a packed third-round schedule lined up once the action gets back underway the day after Boxing Day.

The final session before the break, held on Tuesday 23 December, delivered plenty of drama. It was headlined by a standout upset as Justin Hood produced a sensational performance to eliminate sixth seed Danny Noppert, one of several moments that lit up Ally Pally before the hiatus.
