Chelsea would be pumped to start their pre season after sealing the Club World Cup last month.

Paris Saint-Germain’s emphatic stride following their Champions League triumph gave Chelsea little hope of beating them, but goals from Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro drowned the European champions in the final.

The Blues finished fourth in the league standings last season with 69 points and they ended up being the third best defensive side.

Enzo Maresca transformed the side as Chelsea added positively to their gameplay to qualify for the Champions League, having a three-point lead over 5th placed Newcastle United.

Maresca is expected to start Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in the engine room to make them match ready ahead of the new season. Reece James is set to start in defence alongside Nathaniel Chalobah, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella.

As for the visitors, they come into this match on the back of a 3-0 victory over Pisa. Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga standings last season, a staggering 23 points behind champions Bayern Munich.

It is always tough to replicate the highs of a title winning campaign, and Xabi Alonso’s tenure came to an end on a rather positive note, considering the side qualified for the Champions League.

Die Werkself will be without the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Granit Xhaka, and a host of adequate reinforcements are yet to arrive. Erik Ten Hag has led Leverkusen to four pre season friendlies.

Barring a 5-1 defeat to U-20 Flamengo, they went on to win the next three, scoring seven goals and conceding once.

New signing Jarell Quansah is set to start in defence. Malik Tillman could feature upfront.
