St. Mary’s Stadium, the home ground of Southampton, will play centre stage to a pre-season friendly fixture between the home team and Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Headed by newly appointed boss Will Still, Southampton’s goals for the 2025-26 season are clear: to secure promotion back to the top flight of English football.

The pre season for Southampton has provided one win, one loss, and one draw, and the manager must be pleased with his team’s performance; their only loss came against a Spanish top flight team, Espanyol.

The match against Brighton and Hove Albion will be the last of the pre season for Still’s men.

After this fixture, the next game that they will play will be their first match of the 2025-26 EFL Championship season. It will be contested against newly promoted side Wrexham.

The Seagulls, playing their ninth consecutive season in the top flight, have been witness to the departure of key players Joao Pedro and Pervis Estupinian.

The South coast club have made a big move for teenage sensation Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiacos, their most expensive transfer of the summer.

Fabian Hurzeler’s men has also been in decent form; they have registered victories in all the fixtures they have participated in so far.

6-1 and 3-1 wins over Wycombe Wanderers and Stoke City, respectively, were followed by a win over La Liga team Las Palmas.

The game against the Spanish team was played behind closed doors, and saw strikes from Yasin Ayari and Matt O’Riley.

After the game against Southampton, Brighton and Hove Albion will play one further friendly against Wolfsburg before their 2025-26 Premier League campaign begins with a match against Fulham on 16 August.
