Hunted opened to 250,000 viewers for its premiere on Cinemax. The espionage thriller, a BBC and Cinemax co-production, made its US debut on the pay-cable network on October 19th.

Created and written by Frank Spotnitz, the former X-Files writer and producer, Hunted runs to eight episodes and was made by Kudos and Big Light Productions. It first aired in the UK on BBC One earlier this month.

Melissa George stars as Sam Hunter, an operative for Byzantium, a private intelligence firm. After surviving an attempt on her life that she believes was ordered from inside her own agency, she goes to ground, then returns to work undercover while trying to work out who wanted her dead and who she can trust. Stephen Dillane also features as Byzantium’s enigmatic boss, Rupert Keel.

The 250,000 figure puts Hunted below the launches of Cinemax’s other home-grown drama Strike Back, whose first two seasons opened to 567,000 and 390,000 viewers, though the network has pointed to strong on-demand viewing for the new series.
