Boomerang has acquired the new Inspector Gadget for its channels across EMEA, Latin America and Asia Pacific. The deal, struck with Turner Broadcasting, gives the network the CGI reboot of the classic cartoon.

Produced by DHX Media, the 26-episode series updates the original that aired in the 1980s. It finds the bumbling cyborg detective coaxed out of retirement after his old foe Dr Claw reactivates his global crime syndicate, MAD. As ever, much of the real detective work falls to Gadget’s niece Penny and her dog Brain, who quietly keep him out of trouble.

The reboot was commissioned by the Canadian network Teletoon, where it is due to premiere in 2015. Boomerang’s pick-up takes it to viewers across dozens of international markets.
