Viva has dropped Community, TVWise can reveal. The channel, which had been the free-to-air home for the US comedy in the UK, has opted to stop airing it.
Created by Dan Harmon, Community is set at the fictional Greendale Community College in Colorado. It follows Jeff Winger, a slick lawyer forced back to school after his degree is exposed as fake, who sets up a study group as a way to get close to a classmate and ends up stuck with a band of misfits.
The ensemble is led by Joel McHale as Jeff, alongside Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase and Jim Rash. The show is known for its restless invention, regularly ditching the standard sitcom format for paintball epics, alternate timelines and a stop-motion animated Christmas episode.
Despite a fiercely loyal following, Community has never been a big ratings performer, and Viva’s decision leaves its UK free-to-air future uncertain.
