After recurring on the show’s first season, Tanya Moodie has been upped to series regular for the second season of The Mallorca Files. Additionally, Phil Daniels (Sliced, Quadrophenia) and Josette Simon (Broadchurch, Blake’s Seven) have been tapped for guest starring roles in the new season, which is now filming ahead of a 2020 premiere.
Tanya Moodie plays Abbey Parker, Miranda’s London boss for whom – when it comes to Miranda – out of sight means out of mind. Details of the characters being played by Phil Daniels and Josette Simon were not immediately available. They join returning cast members Elen Rhys, Julian Looman, Maria Fernández-Ache, Nacho Aldeguer, Denis Schmidt and Tabata Cerezo.
The Mallorca Files is set amongst the expat community on the eponymous Spanish island. While self-confessed introverted Brit Miranda Blake takes her career – as well as everything else in life – seriously, German Max Winter is a classic extrovert and unashamedly unconventional.Yet despite – or perhaps because of – their very different approaches, the sleuths form a perfect complementary partnership as they seek to solve a new crime on the island each week.
The drama series was created by showrunner Dan Sefton, who leads a writers room that includes Rachael New, Sarah-Lou Hawkins, Dan Muirden and Alex McBride. Damian Wayling, Liz Lake, Tim Whitnall, Jackie Okwera and Emily Fairweather are joining the writers room for season two. Cosmopolitan Pictures and Clerkenwell Films are producing, with Dominic Barlow serving as the series producer. The directors are Bryn Higgins, Rob Evans, Christiana Ebohon-Green and Craig Pickles. The executive producers are Ben Donald, Murray Ferguson and Dan Sefton.
“I’m delighted that the BBC has decided to commission a second series of The Mallorca Files. It’s been a great show to work on and the amazing support from Dan McGolpin and all at the BBC has allowed us to produce a fun, sexy and individual series set in a fantastic location”, said series creator and showrunner Dan Sefton. “The experience of setting up and running a writer’s room for this show, full of talented and warm-hearted individuals, is one I’m anxious to repeat so I can’t wait to get started.”
