Chris Geere (You’re The Worst, Modern Family), Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman, Arrested Development), Shaquille Ali-Yebuah (The Feed, The Children Act), Jack McMullen (The Souvenir, Ford v Ferrari), Jake Short (SuperCool, This Is the Year), Paolo Sassanelli (The Teacher, Inspector Coliandro) and Theo Barklem Biggs (Sliced, White Gold) are set to star in BBC Two’s comedy series The First Team (formerly known as Afternoons).
The First Team follows follows the off-the-pitch misadventures of three young football players (Ali-Yebuah, McMullen and Short) as they find themselves struggling with their mercurial Italian manager Cesare (Sassanelli), the team’s eccentric American Chairman (Arnett), resident hard-man Petey Brooks (Biggs) and ineffectual coach Chris Booth (Geere). Rounding out the cast is Tamla Kari, Vadhir Derbez, Phil Wang, Neil Fitzmaurice and Yetunde Oduwole.
The comedy series was created by Iain Morris and Damon Beesley and is being produced by Fudge Park Productions. Sam Pinnell is the series producer. The executive producers are Tom Werner and Caroline Leddy. BBC Studios was a partner in financing the development of the series, and will handle global distribution. Production on the series is now underway.
