Netflix Picks Up UK Rights To NBC's Comedy Series 'The Good Place', Sets September Premiere – TVWise

Ted Danson and Kristen Bell’s NBC comedy series is coming to the UK. Out of a wider global deal on the part of the streaming service, Netflix UK has secured exclusive rights to The Good Place from international distributor NBCUniversal International Distribution.
The complete first season will be available to stream from Thursday September 21st. Additionally, TVWise has also learned that the season two premiere will be available to stream on the same day, with new episodes then being made available every Friday (beginning September 29th), less than 24 hours after they air state-side on NBC.
The Good Place follows Eleanor Shellstrop, an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife, and thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place, which is definitely where she belongs. While hiding in plain sight from Michael, the wise architect of the Good Place (who doesn’t know he’s made a mistake), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and discover the awesome person within. The comedy series is produced by Universal Television and stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto and D’Arcy Carden.
This marks the latest in a long-line of global acquisitions for Netflix. It follows in the foot-steps of deals for such shows as ABC’s Designated Survivor, CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, The CW’s Riverdale and Dynasty, and TNT’s period drama The Alienist – all of which land on the streaming service with 24 hours of their initial broadcasts in the United States. Netflix UK is also the exclusive UK broadcaster for a growing roster of U.S. scripted series including Power, Once Upon A Time, Better Call Saul, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Shameless USA and Jane The Virgin.
