Discovery Networks Western Europe has ordered an 11 episode 19th season of their unscripted series Animal Cops Houston.
Produced by UK indie Tin Can Island, Animal Cops Houston follows the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HSPCA) dedicated team of investigators, paramedics and vets as they battle with record levels of animal abuse and neglect. The team deals with shocking cases of animal cruelty, restoring victims back to health and finding them new homes. The series is executive produced by Andrea Cornes and Catherine Ball.
For the show’s 19th season, Chief Patti Mercer has launched a program which will see students from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine getting a taste of what to expect outside the classroom, witnessing first hand the cases that HSPCA handles. The new season will initially air on the US Animal Planet network in 2015, before subsequently airing on Animal Planet UK, followed by a global rollout across Discovery Networks International.
“Factual storytelling is at the core of all Discovery’s content. In Animal Cops Houston we hear the heart-breaking stories of the animal victims as they fight for survival and of the HSPCA team as they fight to save the lives of their patients and bring their abusers to justice”, said Helen Hawken, Discovery Networks Western Europe’s Director of Production, Factual.
While Executive Producer Andrea Cornes added: “Animal Cops Houston is a fantastic series to produce. The staff at the Houston SPCA are an inspiration in their relentless pursuit of the most extreme cases of animal cruelty and neglect. This season we’ve filmed some truly shocking stories and challenging situations but the series continues to deliver uplifting moments and happy endings.”
