Syfy has unveiled its spring 2012 schedule, and confirmed that the fifth and final season of Eureka will premiere on Monday, April 16th. The slot marks a change for the show, which has previously launched in the summer.

The network is billing the season as its biggest spring to date for original programming. Alongside Eureka, the schedule includes the second season of Lost Girl, a new Treasure Island miniseries, and the returns of Ghost Hunters, Hollywood Treasure and Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, plus new series Monster Man, Dream Machines and Total Blackout.

Created by Andrew Cosby and Jaime Paglia, Eureka is set in a town of scientific geniuses who work at the Global Dynamics research facility, with Sheriff Jack Carter the one ordinary man trying to keep the place from blowing itself up. Syfy ordered a 13-episode final season and later added an extra episode to give the series a proper send-off.

The closing run picks up the cliffhanger from season four, with the missing crew of the Astraeus returning home to find that, while only hours have passed for them, four years have gone by in Eureka.
