Sony Channel Acquires UK Rights To ‘Chasing Life’

More than two years after the series was cancelled, Sony Channel has secured the UK rights to the former ABC Family drama series Chasing Life after striking a deal with international distributor Lionsgate Television. The first season will premiere on Tuesday October 17th at 9pm.

Chasing Life follows twenty-something April, a smart and quick witted aspiring journalist. Just as things start to look up at work, home and on the romance front with co-worker Dominic, April gets the devastating news from an estranged uncle that she has cancer.

The drama series, which was produced for ABC Family before it re-branded to Freeform, is adapted from the successful Televisa Spanish-language Mexican television series and is a co-production of BV Family Productions, Lionsgate, and Televisa. While initially a success, ratings collapsed in season two, leading to a swift cancellation. The cast is led by Italia Ricci and also includes Mary Page Keller, Aisha Dee, Richard Brancatisano and Haley Ramm.

This acquisition further extends the relationship between Sony’s flagship UK channel and Lionsgate Television. While Sony has only a small footprint in U.S. acquisitions, the two companies previously pacted together for the linear broadcast rights to the Netflix original series Orange Is The New Black. Sony is also home to such series as The Night Shift and Younger.
