Beauty & The Beast is coming to an end.
The CW has announced that the genre series starring Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan is to end its run with the recently ordered 13 episode fourth season. It is not immediately clear if the fourth season, which The CW picked up before season three had even started airing, will air midseason or Summer 2016.
In this day and age, especially for a show with only OK ratings, four seasons is a good run. Time and time again Beauty & The Beast defied the odds scoring renewals when most had written it off as a goner. In fact, the third season pick up came down to the wire, with CW execs unsure about continuing with Beauty & The Beast. Strong online demand for the series on Hulu as well as strong international sales have been big factors in the show’s longevity, with CBS Studios International execs having described BATB as something of a “cash cow”.
Loosely based on the 1980′s series of the same name, Beauty and the Beast follows the complex relationship between Detective Catherine Chandler and Vincent Keller, a former marine who was reported KIA in Afghanistan in 2002 and saved Catherine from the assassins who murdered her mother several years ago. The drama series is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Kristin Kreuk, Jay Ryan, Austin Basis, Nicole Anderson and Nina Lisandrello. As TVWise previously reported, UKTV will air the fourth season of Beauty & The Beast in the UK in 2016 on their flagship entertainment channel Watch.
