CBC and production company Shaftesbury Films have released a trailer and first look image showing Star Trek star William Shatner in character as Mark Twain from an upcoming episode of period drama Murdoch Mysteries.
TVWise reported back in May that Shatner was up in his native Canada shooting a guest appearance on Murdoch Mysteries for its 18 episode ninth season. The new season is being co-produced by ITV Studios Global Entertainment (who handle global sales) and UKTV, who will once again air the new season on their crime focussed Alibi channel, likely in early 2016.
Murdoch Mysteries is currently airing its ninth season on Monday nights on CBC in Canada, with Shatner’s episode set to air on Monday October 12th. In that episode, titled Marked Twain, Detective Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) and his colleagues must protect Mark Twain when the esteemed writer’s life is threatened after a controversial speaking engagement at the Empire Club of Canada in 1903 Toronto.
Based on the series of novels by Maureen Jennings, Murdoch Mysteries is set at the turn of the 20th century and revolves around Detective William Murdoch of the Toronto constabulary, who uses ground-breaking forensic techniques to close his cases. The drama series is produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with UKTV, CBC & ITV Studios Global Entertainment and stars Yannick Bisson, Thomas Craig, Helene Joy, Jonny Harris and Georgina Reilly.
