CBS is re-teaming with The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King for a new drama series. The network has handed out a 13 episode straight-to-series order to BrainDead, a “comic-thriller” from the duo which is being described as The West Wing meets The Strain.
Created and executive produced by Robert King and Michelle King, BrainDead follows a young fresh-faced Hill staffer getting her first job in Washington, D.C. and discovering two things: 1. The government has stopped working, and 2. alien spawn have come to earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of Congressmen and Hill staffers. Judy Smith will serve as co-executive producer.
The 13 episode series, which is set to premiere next Summer, is being produced by CBS Television Studios. Ridley Scott, who has worked with the Kings on The Good Wife, will executive produce through his Scott Free Productions banner. Robert King, Michelle King, David Zucker and Liz Glotzer will also serve as executive producers. In addition to showrunning BrainDead, the Kings will continue to serve in the same capacity on The Good Wife.
“We wanted to do a show that was a mix of genre-pulp and high-brow politics – ‘The Strain’ crossed with ‘The West Wing,’” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “It seemed like the best way to address the news today – not straight, but as the opening act of a horror movie.”
“Robert and Michelle have developed an intriguingly original concept with layers of humor, suspense and the supernatural,” added Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment. “We look forward to launching it to U.S. viewers and a worldwide audience next summer.”
