ITV has renewed their Thunderbirds reboot Thunderbirds Are Go! for a second season, before the first has even aired.
Thunderbirds Are Go! follows the famous family of heroes, International Rescue, and will see the five brave Tracy brothers piloting their incredible vehicles into impossible rescues across the globe.
ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures are producing with a voice cast that includes Rosamund Pike and David Graham. The executive producers are Estelle Hughes, Giles Ridge, Richard Taylor and Andrew Smith.
The second season pick up, which is for a further 26 episodes, comes ahead of the launch of the show’s first season – which is set to air on ITV and CITV in 2015.
“I am delighted to confirm that a second series of Thunderbirds Are Go has been commissioned for CITV”, said Jamila Metran, Head of Programming for CITV. “We are so excited for the launch of our reboot of the iconic children’s show and look forward to bringing the adventures of the five Tracey brothers to our audiences in 2015.”
ITV Studios’ international distribution division, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, launched Thunderbirds Are Go! at MIPCOM in Cannes earlier this year. The rebooted series widely impressed international buyers, with ITVSGE quickly racking up sales with TVNZ in New Zealand, Australia’s Nine Network, Noga in Israel and pan-Arab broadcaster MBC.
“The unique mix of CGI animation and incredible model sets gives each episode of Thunderbirds Are Go a theatrical feel rarely seen in children’s TV that has generated huge interest globally”, said Steve Green, ITV Studios Global Entertainment’s Executive Vice-President of Kids’ Content and Distribution. “Having 52 episodes of this quality takes our discussions to a new level.”
