Channel 5 has closed a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to NBC’s Debra Messing fronted drama series The Mysteries Of Laura for their digi-net 5USA, TVWise has learned.
Based on the Spanish series Los Misterios De Laura, The Mysteries of Laura follows NYPD homicide Det. Laura Diamond, who manages to balance her time between being a police officer and that of a harried mom with two unruly young boys. The drama series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and stars Debra Messing, Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar and Max Jenkins.
The show launched in the United States on NBC back in September and has been a solid performer for the network, averaging an audience of more than 10 million viewers in its Wednesday night 8pm time-slot. The Mysteries of Laura is also one of the few new shows from the 2014-2015 season to have earned a back nine/full season order.
This deal further extends the relationship between the Viacom owned Channel 5 and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution. The two companies have previously pacted on such shows as Person of Interest & The Mentalist; and earlier this year they also agreed a high profile deal for Gotham, which has been a ratings hit for C5 with episodes frequently drawing a consolidated audience of more than 2 million viewers.
The first season of The Mysteries of Laura is expected to premiere on 5USA in January 2015.
