Channel 5 is adding more NCIS and CSI to their schedules.
The Viacom owned broadcaster has struck a deal with CBS Studios International to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to NCIS: New Orleans and CSI: Cyber, TVWise has learned. The multi-year deal also gives C5 the free-to-air rights to future seasons of NCIS (first window rights to the Mark Harmon fronted series remain with Fox UK).
NCIS: New Orleans is set in the NCIS New Orleans field office, which handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. The drama is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Scott Bakula (Star Trek: Enterprise, Men Of A Certain Age), CCH Pounder (Warehouse 13, Sons Of Anarchy), Zoe McLellan (JAG, Dirty Sexy Money) and Lucas Black (Fast & Furious). The executive producers are Gary Glasberg, Mark Harmon, Jeffery Lieber and James Hayman.
Created by Anthony Zuiker, Ann Donahue & Carol Mendelsohn, CSI: Cyber follows FBI Special Agent Avery Ryan, who runs the bureau’s Cyber Crime Division in Quantico, VA. Ryan is responsible for solving high-octane crimes that start in the mind, live on-line, and play out into the real world. The drama series is produced by CBS Television Studios and stars Patricia Arquette, James Van Der Beek, Peter MacNicol, Charley Koontz and Shad Moss.
“CSI and NCIS are record-breaking franchises, it’s great to be bringing the next installments of both shows to Channel 5″, said Katie Keenan, Channel 5’s Head of Acquisitions. “Our viewers will love Patricia Arquette’s show stealing performance in CSI:Cyber and the fantastic ensemble cast lead by Scott Bakula in NCIS: New Orleans.”
Both NCIS: New Orleans and CSI: Cyber wowed international buyers at the LA Screenings and were all but guaranteed to secure UK deals, with Channel 5 considered the likely home due to the broadcaster’s long standing relationship with both franchises. Channel 5 has been the exclusive UK home to every iteration of CSI since the franchise launched more than a decade ago; while they are also the FTA home to NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles.
With this deal, Channel 5 has now acquired three of this season’s hottest and most expensive shows. It follows the deal with Warner Bros, International Television Distribution for Gotham, which premiered last night to 2.1 million viewers – beating both BBC Two and Channel 4 in the slot. NCIS: New Orleans and CSI: Cyber will premiere on Channel 5 in 2015.
