Fox’s Broadchurch remake Gracepoint is heading to Australia and Canada.

International distributor Shine International has sold the 10 episode “event series” to Foxtel in Australia and Global TV in Canada. The David Tennant fronted drama will air on Global TV on Thursday October 2nd, at the same time as the US broadcast on Fox; while the show is getting a day and date release via Foxtel on the NBCUniversal owned Universal Channel on Friday October 3rd.

Gracepoint follows the tragic and mysterious death of a young boy found dead on an idyllic California beach surrounded by rocks and a jutting cliff-face, from where he may have fallen. Although the cause of his death remains unsolved, the picturesque seaside town where the tragedy occurred is at the heart of a major police investigation and a nationwide media frenzy.

The series is based on the British series Broadchurch and is being produced by Shine America in association with Kudos and Imaginary Friends. In addition to David Tennant, who starred in the original UK series, the cast includes Anna Gunn, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Josh Hamilton, Michael Peña and Sarah-Jane Potts). The executive producers are Anya Epstein, Dan Futterman, Jane Featherstone, John Goldwyn and Carolyn Bernstein. Chris Chibnall, who created Broadchurch, wrote the premiere episode and also executive produces.

“Arguably one of the most anticipated dramas of the season Gracepoint has its origins in Broadchurch, but over the extended 10 – episode run, this adaptation will take audiences on a very different, but equally compelling journey”, said Nadine Nohr, CEO of Shine International. “Exploring the universal themes of love and loss, global audiences will continue to connect to this deeply moving drama, which I’m very proud to have as part of our scripted slate”.
