Sky1 has ordered a UK adaptation of the TBS series King of the Nerds which will be hosted by former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq.
King of the Nerds will see eleven contestants face challenges that test their intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture knowledge. The contestants live together in “Nerdvana,” competing first as teams before moving on to individual challenges. Week-by-week contestants are eliminated, until the series culminates with one winner being crowned as the King Of The Nerds.
The original series has been a decent ratings performer for the Turner owned cable network TBS and has aired two seasons in the US. The UK version of the series, which has received an order for 8 episodes, is being produced by Objective Productions and Ben Silverman’s Electus, who are handling global sales for the completed US and UK series as well as the format rights. King of the Nerds UK is being executive produced by Adam Adler and Shannon Delwiche.
“We are really excited to be bringing the UK version of this successful US series to our Sky 1 customers”, Sky’s Commissioning Editor Entertainment Barbara Lee, who commissioned the series alongside Sky1 Director Adam MacDonald. “These incredibly intelligent men and women will push their brain power to the limit but in the end there can only be one winner.”
While King of the Nerds host Konnie Huq added: “Totally excited about King of the Nerds, such a great concept. Me and my hubby got really addicted to seasons 1 and 2 of the US show. Great challenges and fab characters. Can’t wait to start filming the UK version.”
