Sky Arts has green-lit Marked, a one-off half hour drama for their Playhouse Presents strand starring Kiefer Sutherland and Stephen Fry.
Marked tells the story of James (Sutherland), a seemingly regular guy who has been ground down by the pressures of work, family, money and life. Drowning in debt, James hits crisis point and in his desperation agrees to carry out a hit. But before he passes the point of no return, he discovers that things aren’t quite as they seem. Instead of the mark, he is confronted with the last person (Fry) he expects to see. Kevin McNally also stars.
The half-hour drama, which reunites 24: Live Another Day co-stars Kiefer Sutherland and Stephen Fry, was penned by Greg Ellis, who is also attached to direct. Stephen Fry’s production company Sprout Pictures is producing Marked, which is being eyed for a Christmas premiere. The executive producers are Jo McClellan, Gina Carter and Stephen Fry.
Securing Kiefer Sutherland for their Playhouse Presents strand is the latest big “get” for Sky Arts. The actor is the latest addition to a short, yet distinguished, list of well known American actors who have starred in a production for the channel. Other notable US actors to have appeared in Sky Arts’ productions include Jon Hamm in A Young Doctor’s Notebook and Matthew Perry in the Playhouse Presents drama The Dog Thrower.
“When Stephen and Kiefer agreed to do a Playhouse Presents…, it was like all my Christmas’ rolled into one”, said Phil Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts. “Their enthusiasm to work together is evident and it echoes our own customers’ enthusiasm for amazing and inspiring drama. Sky is committed to working with the best, whether that is great actors, writers or directors, and giving them the freedom to create great work with gusto.”
